Immunostimulant effects were observed by the EO present in frankincense oil (Boswellia carteri),
in which the main constituents are α-pinene, octyl acetate, and α-thujene (depending on the origin of the plants). These compounds increased human lymphocyte proliferation, and this effect was comparable to that induced by the wellknown immunostimulants, such as the Echinacea purpurea extract and levamisole (Mikhaeil et al., 2003).
